Annuities

An annuity is a contract between you and an insurance company, under which you make payments or deposit a lump sum payment into an annuity account. The insurance carrier agrees to make periodic payments to you immediately or at some future date. Annuities offer tax deferred growth and can include a death benefit payable to your beneficiary. Most people buy annuities for retirement savings.
There are usually three types of annuities:

• Fixed – pays a fixed interest rate on your investment
• Variable – invest your payments in different investment options, typically mutual funds. This is regulated by the Security and Exchange Commission.
• Equity-Indexed – Insurance Company credits you with a return that is based on changes to an equity index. The insurance company usually guarantees a minimum return rate that can vary.
